01Who We Are
World NGO Day (27 February) is a global awareness day, initiated by its founder Marcis Liors Skadmanis, and belongs to civil society. In some countries the day is recognized in national law, and it is listed by the EU as an international day. worldngoday.org is its official website. worldngoday.com belongs to worldngoday.org and directs here. Both the website and the MyWND community platform at mywnd.worldngoday.org ("MyWND") are overseen and managed by the World NGO Day Global Council (the "Global Council," "we," "us"), a registered nonprofit (Exponential Organization) established to help safeguard the legacy, global recognition and continued development of World NGO Day, with a particular focus on cities worldwide.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through worldngoday.org, worldngoday.com and MyWND, why we collect it, how it is used and shared, and the choices available to you. It should be read together with our Cookie Policy and our Terms and Conditions.
02Information We Collect
Information you provide to us
- MyWND registration. When you create a MyWND account (becoming a "subscriber" — see our Terms and Conditions on why MyWND has subscribers, not members), we collect your first and last name, email address and country (required), and, if you choose to share them, your city, sector, organization, role/position, LinkedIn profile URL, the topics you're interested in, and which parts of MyWND you'd like to access.
- Communication preferences. Whether you'd like to receive occasional World NGO Day updates, resources and opportunities.
- Donations. If you make a gift to World NGO Day, payment is collected and processed directly by our payment processors — currently Stripe, PayPal and other official processors listed on our Donate page. We do not receive or store full card numbers or bank details; we may receive your name, email address, donation amount, date and a transaction reference from the processor.
- Executive Advisors. Executive Advisors to the Global Council provide additional information as part of signing their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), used to grant access to the dedicated Council section of MyWND.
- Direct communications. If you contact us — including via the official World NGO Day LinkedIn page or MyWND Support — we collect whatever information you include in that communication.
Information collected automatically
- Cookies and similar technologies — see our Cookie Policy for the full list of categories and purposes, and our Cookie Settings to manage your preferences.
- Usage and device data — pages visited, general location (derived from IP address), browser and device type, referring pages, and similar diagnostic information, collected through analytics tools where you have consented to them.
We do not knowingly collect government ID numbers, precise geolocation, financial account details, or other sensitive categories of personal data through worldngoday.org or MyWND.
03How We Use Information
- To create and administer your MyWND account and provide the resources, guides, City Guides, Global Review content and community features you request access to.
- To send you World NGO Day updates, newsletters, announcements and notifications — only where you have opted in, and always with an option to unsubscribe.
- To process one-time and monthly donations through our payment processors, issue receipts, and administer legacy gifts and other giving arrangements.
- To grant Executive Advisors access to the dedicated Council section of MyWND, in line with their signed MOU.
- To respond to inquiries, including messages received via the official LinkedIn page or MyWND Support.
- To detect, investigate and prevent fraud, spam, impersonation and misuse of the World NGO Day name, logo or MyWND platform.
- To maintain the security, integrity and performance of our website and platform, and to understand aggregate usage so we can improve them.
- To comply with applicable law and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
04Our Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Visitors)
Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for newsletters/updates, non-essential cookies, and any optional information you choose to provide.
- Performance of a contract — to create and operate the MyWND account you requested, and to process a donation you make.
- Legitimate interests — to keep our website and MyWND secure, to prevent fraud and impersonation of World NGO Day, and to understand and improve how our services are used, balanced against your rights and interests.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.
06International Data Transfers
World NGO Day is a global initiative, and the Global Council and its service providers operate in multiple countries, including the United States. If you are located outside the United States, information you provide may be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States or other countries where our processors operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your own country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
07Data Retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide MyWND access and the purposes described in this Policy, to maintain accurate records of donations and Executive Advisor MOUs, and to meet legal, accounting or reporting obligations. You may ask us to delete your MyWND account and associated personal data at any time (see "Your Rights" below); we will do so unless we need to retain certain information for legitimate business, legal or safety reasons.
08Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Delete your information or close your MyWND account.
- Object to, or request that we restrict, certain processing.
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent (for newsletters, this is as simple as clicking "unsubscribe" in any email, or updating your preference in MyWND).
California residents: under the CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion or correction, and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not sell or "share" (as that term is defined under California law) personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us through MyWND Support (once signed in) or via the official World NGO Day LinkedIn page — see "Contact Us" below. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
09Children's Privacy
MyWND and worldngoday.org do not carry age-restricted content and are open to anyone with a genuine interest in civil society and the nonprofit sector. That said, MyWND registration is intended for professionals, students, volunteers and organizations, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a young child without appropriate parental or guardian consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without that consent, please contact us and we will delete it.
10Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the personal information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11Third-Party Links and Content
Our website, blog and MyWND may link to, quote, or republish content from third-party and open-source sites to raise awareness of World NGO Day, civil society and the nonprofit sector, with attribution where known. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content or accuracy of third-party sites. Please review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit. See our Terms and Conditions for more on how we handle third-party and republished content.
12Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational or regulatory reasons. We will update the "last updated" date above, and, where a change is material, we will provide a more prominent notice on our website or through MyWND.
