World NGO Day Fair Highlights Collaborative Impact in Trinidad and Tobago

Port of Spain hosted the inaugural World NGO Day Fair, organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services through its Non-Governmental Organisation Unit. The event, held under the theme “Better, Together,” showcased the work of local NGOs alongside international development partners, emphasizing their collective contributions to national development and social progress.

Senator the Honourable Donna Cox, Minister of Social Development and Family Services, delivered the feature address, highlighting the role of community-led initiatives in advancing sustainable development. She noted that over the past two years, more than 330 NGOs received a combined $300 million in government assistance, reflecting ongoing support for programs that address social inequities.

The fair featured exhibition-style displays, providing NGOs a platform to share their projects, demonstrate outcomes, and network with stakeholders. Minister Cox emphasized that collaboration is central to achieving meaningful social impact, urging continued partnerships to build a more inclusive society.

Acting Permanent Secretary Ryan Ramcharan reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the sector through capacity-building, governance improvements, and policy initiatives. The NGO Unit facilitates technical support, funding access, and networking opportunities to enhance operational sustainability and broaden sectoral impact.

By fostering dialogue between governmental and non-governmental actors, the fair demonstrated the tangible benefits of coordinated efforts in social development, while highlighting the critical role NGOs play in bridging gaps and reaching underserved communities.
