Imbabura Geopark Highlights World NGO Day in Ecuador

The Imbabura Geopark in Ecuador marked World NGO Day on February 27, 2024, with a focused initiative to recognize the contributions of non-governmental organizations to social, environmental, and educational development. Organized by the Prefectura de Imbabura through the Geoparque Imbabura Project, the day served both as recognition and as an educational platform for young people, highlighting career opportunities in the NGO sector. Local NGOs engaged with the community to share insights about their ongoing projects, which range from environmental conservation and geotourism initiatives to education and cultural heritage preservation. The event showcased how NGOs contribute practical solutions to challenges that governmental institutions may struggle to address alone.

 

By leveraging the region’s unique geological heritage, the Geopark has positioned itself as a model for sustainable territorial development.
