Organized by the Prefectura de Imbabura through the Geoparque Imbabura Project, the day served both as recognition and as an educational platform for young people, highlighting career opportunities in the NGO sector. Local NGOs engaged with the community to share insights about their ongoing projects, which range from environmental conservation and geotourism initiatives to education and cultural heritage preservation. The event showcased how NGOs contribute practical solutions to challenges that governmental institutions may struggle to address alone.
By leveraging the region’s unique geological heritage, the Geopark has positioned itself as a model for sustainable territorial development. The World NGO Day initiative highlighted the interplay between civic organizations and public authorities in achieving these goals, demonstrating how collaboration can enhance the social and economic resilience of local communities.
Officials emphasized that recognizing NGO work publicly encourages civic engagement and inspires the next generation of social sector leaders. The initiative also reinforced the importance of maintaining partnerships between NGOs, local government, and educational institutions to maximize impact.
