The Republic of Moldova observed World NGO Day 2021, with Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi highlighting the essential contributions of non-governmental organizations to the nation’s social and political development. In his official statement, Ciocoi recognized NGOs as key actors in promoting justice, human rights, social inclusion, media freedom, and cultural initiatives.

 

World NGO Day, celebrated in more than 90 countries since 2010, is designed to recognize the work of civil society groups and encourage collaboration between NGOs, governments, and the private sector. In Moldova, the Prime Minister noted that the growth and diversity of registered NGOs since 1990 serve as indicators of social progress and alignment with European standards.

 

Ciocoi emphasized that NGOs play a critical role in driving reform and generating change, particularly in areas where public institutions may lack reach or resources. The statement underscored the value of citizen engagement in shaping an open, inclusive, and prosperous society, and highlighted how civil society contributes to policy discussions and community development initiatives.

 

By publicly acknowledging NGOs’ work, the Moldovan government reinforced its commitment to supporting civil society and fostering partnerships that address pressing social challenges. The recognition also aimed to motivate citizens to participate actively in nonprofit initiatives and strengthen the impact of these organizations across the country.
